Beth grins as she heads into the apartment, already looking for the baby before Serena even mentions him. She finds him exactly where Serena says, in his bouncer and Beth's face softens as she takes him in. He's nearly a month old, sweet and small, exactly like a baby should be, and she can feel a part of her melting at just the sight of him.
Even in the worst circumstances, a baby is a gift. Judith's birth had been horrible, Laurie dying in the midst of it, killing herself, really, because she had known she had to. There was no escaping what was happening to her and then, at the end, there had been Judith, tiny and perfect and wonderful.
"Is he sleepin'?" she asks as she passes one of the bags to Serena and sets the other on the table. "I'd love to hold him if you don't mind, but I don't wanna wake him if he's napping."
